Art has been a passion since childhood. Both my Mother and Grandmother were artists so it’s in my DNA. It’s something within, a need to capture the essence of a subject.
Over the years I have done graphite sketching, charcoal drawings and paintings in oils, watercolour, acrylic and soft pastel. I especially love portraiture and capturing eyes, windows to the soul. I fell in love with soft pastel and its ability to create detail about 15 years ago. Pastel teaches a lot about colour mixing and the use of the colour wheel, however soft pastel share first place with oils and charcoal.
I believe art is therapy, it’s a place to ‘get lost’ to remove yourself from the daily grind, to achieve and create. I love teaching others to experience the benefits of being creative. Classes offer an opportunity to learn lifelong skills and socialise with like-minded people. While anything new is challenging, you don’t grow unless you step outside your safe bubble.
