When first arriving in Sydney from England many years ago I was struck by the unique nature of the Australian landscape with its often brightly coloured birds, and intriguing flora. I am inspired by the shapes, the colours, the textures and the light of whatever is around me and try to capture their essence in my paintings.
I’ve also explored the watercolour effects achieved with other subjects such as flower arrangements, still life, and family pets.
I’ve also been fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to take inspiration from painting trips to Italy and Greece.
I’ve previously explored painting on silk and on ceramics, but these days I work in watercolour, loving the often unexpected and unpredictable effects that can be achieved, and in acrylics, where their bright colours are ideal for expressing native flora and fauna, and where their freedom allows for many techniques to be used.
I’ve won various awards over the years, and was featured in the Creative Artist magazine in 2016 (Issue 12).
